For the first 50 years of my life, my perfectionist self mistakenly believed it was all about knowing more, getting it right, planning, attempting to prevent bad things from happening, and keeping all of my chicks in a row. It took me this long to discover that the JOURNEY is all that matters. This quote from Gilda Radner sums it all up:

"I wanted a perfect ending. Now I've learned, the hard way, that some poems don't rhyme, and some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next.

Running Stats

I have never posted twice in one day, but I forgot to post my running stats at the end of this morning's blog.

I also forgot to post them at the end of Annie's birthday blog.

So here is my update.

While running/jogging is still not easy,
I have started to develop of rhythm to my breathing.
I am not gasping for air anymore.  Yeah!

I still find it hard to run 2 days in a row.
My body seems to need the extra time to recover.

While my legs still hurt, especially for the first 1/4 mile,
they don't ache for hours afterward anymore.

My jogging log (new entries in red)

13:18 min           1.04 mile            12:47 min/mile
12:29 min           1.05 miles           11:53 min/mile
14:53 min           1.24 miles           12:00 min/mile
12:34 min           1.06 miles           11:51 min/mile
15:08 min           1.37 miles           11:02 min/mile
16:46 min           1.45 miles           11:34 min/mile
16:07 min           1.44 miles           11:12 min/mile
16:20 min           1.40 miles           11:40 min/mile
15:54 min           1.40 miles           11:21 min/mile
15:03 min           1.40 miles           10:40 min/mile
15:39 min           1.40 miles           11:11 min/mile
15:25 min           1.40 miles           10:51 min/mile
15:28 min           1.40 miles           11:03 min/mile
15:31 min           1.37 miles           11:20 min/mile
15:20 min           1.40 miles           10:57 min/mile
15:55 min           1.50 miles           10:37 min/mile
16:07 min           1.50 miles           10:45 min/mile
16:03 min           1.50 miles           10:42 min/mile
16:00 min           1.50 miles           10:40 min/mile
18:00 min           1.67 miles           10:47 min/mile

I'm happy with my progress.

It seems silly that an increase of 1/10 mile makes
a difference, but it does.

Little by little, I'm headed in the right direction!

  1. Good for you! I can't do everyday, I also need the recovery. I can run every other day, but most of the time I run 3x a week.

  2. How far do you run, Leanne? I can't believe how much harder it is to do things at our age! I was thinking I had Muscular Dystrophy or something!

  3. Things are definitely harder at our age, and it's really important to listen to our bodies! Right now, I'm on the treadmill (being the fair weather girl that I am!), so at the most it's 4 miles and that's on Sunday. During the work week it's 3 miles. Mentally it's very tough, and that's what holds me back from doing more on the treadmill. I look forward to longer runs in the spring. What I love most, and what keeps my weight where I want it, is running for an hour, 3x a week. A year and half ago I was training with a group for a 1/2 marathon, but my knee/IT band got in the way. I have one of those in me, I just know it! Someday.
